Jay Maisel
Jay Maisel is an American Photographer who studied graphic design and painting at Cooper Union and Yale. After completing his studies, his photography career started around the year 1954, and he took some pretty famous photos of some famous people, such as Marylin Monroe. His most common work, though, captures everyday life in a very simple and beautiful way. During his professional career, he took photos for multiple magazines and album covers, as well as certain advertisers, along with United Technologies. He doesn’t do much commercial work anymore, but now focuses on personal artwork and photography.
His work inspired me because of the focus on shapes that can be seen in his work, as well as up close pieces of people. I enjoyed finding the beauty in things that can be right in front of you, and things people don’t necessarily pay attention to when they are in the present. Capturing photos of these types of things, like Maisel did, can really highlight the exquisiteness in our everyday world around us.
